What's Ethics Got To Do With It
66It used to be a time in America when a firm handshake sealed the deal on a business transaction. No paperwork was signed people simply relied on the moral ethics of individuals during those times.
One of the dictionary definitions of Ethics is: "a system of moral principles"
Moral principles in our modern age seems to be elusive. In the pursuit of wealth morality really is irrelevant is it not? Let's address the issue of purchasing merchandise. We happen to find on the Internet something we wish to purchase as a gift for a friend now since this is a gift meaning we will most likely never purchase another item from this company ever again, but in order to purchase this item we must not only provide the company with all the standard information we normally give to any business we must also sign up with this company as we have to do with so many companies (Login Account) . Having purchased the item and it having been sent to our friend we are now getting constant advertisements in our e-mail mailbox to purchase again day after day. Where is the ethics in this process why can't I as a consumer decide if I want to sign up with a company without having to be forced to in order to purchase merchandise?
How about software purchasing. A company creates a software program which I as a consumer urchases and ignoring the same procedure as previously mentioned when did purchasing software meant that we would be implacably linked together after the transaction has been completed? Which is to say the software that I purchased with my money is now periodically sending me reminders to upgrade this software. This is not coming by way of my e-mail it comes when I launched this software so my question is when does this software which I purchased becomes mine and not ours?
How about updating software, updating can be or has been free however recently there is a time eriod where one will receive their last update and once they install that last update it will constantly remind the consumer they need to contribute money towards the free update each and every time they closed down or start up the software. Have we eradicated the word and the meaning of free from the dictionary? Free does not mean you get this if you do that nor does it mean it is free if you allow this or allow that!
From my point of view it would seem that in order to get what we want "What's Ethics Got To Do With It?"
